## How to use it

1. **Name the product.** Add the name and one or two sentences on what it does.
2. **Add the audience.** Optional, but taglines get sharper when they know who they are talking to.
3. **Pick a tone.** Plain, warm, confident, playful or technical.
4. **Choose and trim.** Copy the strongest line, then cut any word it can lose. Every tagline shows its character count.

## What a tagline is for

A tagline sits next to your name on a launch listing, your homepage and every social card. Its job is to make the right person think "that is for me" in the two seconds they give it. That means it should say something specific. "The future of work" fits every product and so describes none of them.

## Why 60 characters

Sixty characters fits in a Product Hunt tagline, a Google title next to your name, a directory card and an X bio without being cut off. If a line needs more room than that, it is usually trying to say two things.

## Four angles worth trying

- **Benefit.** What the user gets. "Know what to build next from your support queue."
- **Outcome.** The state they end up in. "Walk into planning with a ranked list."
- **Contrast.** The old way versus yours, without naming a competitor. "Stop guessing priorities from the loudest customer."
- **Plain.** What it is and who it is for. "Roadmap planning for small SaaS teams."

Plain lines are underrated. On launch sites full of clever slogans, a tagline that just says what the product does often gets more clicks.

## How to pick one

1. Cut any line that would fit a competitor equally well.
2. Read the survivors aloud. Keep the ones you would say to a friend.
3. Test two finalists in real places: your homepage hero and a social post. Pick the one people repeat back to you.

Taglines here never use words like "revolutionary" or "seamless", and never end in an exclamation mark. Pair your pick with a full listing from the [product description generator](/tools/product-description-generator), and check how it looks in search with the [SERP preview](/tools/serp-preview).

## Questions

### What is the difference between a tagline and a slogan?

A tagline is a lasting line that sits with your brand name and says what you are. A slogan usually belongs to one campaign and changes. For a new product, you need a tagline first.

### How long should a tagline be?

Under 60 characters, and ideally under 40. That fits launch listings, search results and social profiles without being cut off, and forces you to say one thing clearly.

### Should my tagline include keywords?

If a keyword fits naturally, yes, because taglines often end up in page titles and listings that search engines read. Do not force it. A clear line that converts beats a keyword-stuffed one.

### Can I use these taglines commercially?

Yes. They are generated for you and free to use. Do a quick search to make sure a line is not already a well-known slogan in your space.
