# Open Graph Checker

> Preview how a link looks when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack and X. Lists every og: and twitter: tag, tests the image and shows what is missing.

Use it free at https://swipetolaunch.com/tools/open-graph-checker

## How to use it

1. **Paste a URL.** The page you are about to share or launch.
2. **Check tags.** We read every og: and twitter: tag and request the share image to make sure it loads.
3. **Preview and fix.** See a Facebook/LinkedIn style card and an X card, plus the tags you should add.

## What Open Graph tags do

When someone pastes your link into LinkedIn, Facebook, Slack, iMessage, Discord or X, the app fetches the page and builds a preview card from its Open Graph tags. Good tags produce a large image, a clear title and a one-line description. Missing tags produce a bare URL, or a card with whatever image the platform guesses.

On launch day, that card is your ad. It is worth checking before you post.

## The tags that matter

- **og:title.** The card's headline. Can differ from the page title; it does not need the brand suffix.
- **og:description.** One or two sentences. Many platforms cut it after about 150 characters.
- **og:image.** An absolute https URL. 1200 × 630 pixels (1.91:1) works everywhere. Keep it under 5 MB and avoid text near the edges, which some apps crop.
- **og:url.** The canonical URL that shares are counted against.
- **og:type.** `website` for most pages, `article` for posts.
- **og:site_name.** Your brand, shown above the title on several platforms.
- **twitter:card.** `summary_large_image` for the big image layout on X. X falls back to the og: tags for title, description and image.

## Why my card did not update

Platforms cache previews, sometimes for days. After fixing tags, use Facebook's Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn's Post Inspector to force a refetch. Also check that the image URL is public, served over https, and not blocked by robots.txt or hotlink protection. The checker requests the image and reports its status and type.

## Preview accuracy

The previews here follow each platform's current layout closely, but every app renders slightly differently and changes its design over time. Treat them as a strong guide. To create tags from scratch, use the [Open Graph generator](/tools/open-graph-generator), and for the image itself, the [OG image generator](/tools/og-image-generator).

## What you get

## Questions

### What size should an Open Graph image be?

1200 × 630 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio, works on Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack and X's large card. Keep the file under 5 MB and the important content away from the edges.

### Why is my LinkedIn preview showing the wrong image?

LinkedIn caches previews. Fix the og:image tag, then paste the URL into LinkedIn's Post Inspector to refresh it. Make sure the image URL is absolute and publicly reachable.

### Do I need Twitter card tags if I have Open Graph tags?

Only twitter:card. X reads og:title, og:description and og:image as fallbacks, but without twitter:card set to summary_large_image you may get the small thumbnail layout.

### Do Open Graph tags affect SEO?

Not directly. Google does not use them for ranking. They affect how often people click shared links, which drives traffic and, indirectly, links and mentions.
