## Title Case that follows a style guide

Capitalizing every word is not title case. AP and most publishers keep short articles, conjunctions and prepositions lowercase unless they start or end the title: "What Is the Best Way to Launch on Product Hunt", not "What Is The Best Way To Launch On Product Hunt".

This converter lowercases a, an, the, and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet, as, at, by, in, of, off, on, out, per, to, up and via in the middle of a title. It always capitalizes the first and last word and the word after a colon. Brand names with inner capitals such as iPhone or GitHub, and acronyms like NASA and API, keep their casing unless the whole input is in capitals.

## Sentence case for interfaces

Most product teams now write buttons, menus and headings in sentence case: "Create new project", not "Create New Project". It is easier to read and avoids arguments about which words to capitalize. Sentence case here capitalizes the first word of each sentence and the pronoun "I", and leaves acronyms alone.

## Code cases

- **camelCase**: JavaScript and Java variables, JSON keys.
- **PascalCase**: classes, React components, TypeScript types.
- **snake_case**: Python, Ruby and database columns.
- **kebab-case**: URLs, CSS classes and file names.
- **CONSTANT_CASE**: environment variables and constants.

Code cases split on spaces, punctuation and existing capitals, so "parseHTTPResponse" becomes parse_http_response. Each line converts separately, so you can paste a list of names. For URL slugs with accents and stop words removed, use the [slug generator](/tools/slug-generator).

## What you get

## Questions

### Which words are not capitalized in title case?

In AP style, articles (a, an, the), coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet) and prepositions of three letters or fewer (at, by, in, of, on, to, up) stay lowercase unless they are the first or last word.

### What is the difference between camelCase and PascalCase?

Both join words without spaces and capitalize each word. camelCase starts with a lowercase letter (userName); PascalCase starts with a capital (UserName). PascalCase is usual for class and component names.

### When should I use snake_case or kebab-case?

snake_case is standard for Python variables and SQL column names. kebab-case is standard for URLs, CSS class names and file names, because hyphens read as word breaks to search engines.

### How do I fix text typed in all caps?

Paste it and copy the Sentence case result. When the input is mostly capitals, the converter treats it as shouting and lowercases everything before re-capitalizing sentence starts.
